absolutely drowning the system log with messages is not "trivial".

however, if those messages are just related to the facebook plugin (i think that's what i read, and i don't seem to be having them since i disabled the plugin) then i guess now it genuinely is a non-issue.

the official gmail notifier doesn't use growl (unless the feature's been added very recently - i contacted them not long ago to request that they added the option, no news yet tho afaik).
an alternative that does use growl is notify.

hi since installing snow leopard i'd been running the 1.2 beta version, and i don't remember having any problems with it. but since updating from the beta to the 1.2 release version, growlhelperapp has crashed a couple of times, and i've had to kill it with activity monitor. i've had similar crashes...

i seem to remember the second problem you mention, and i'd guess possibly the first one as well, can be fixed by quitting adium and deleting
~/Library/Application Support/Adium 2.0/Users/Default (or whichever you're using)/libpurple/blist.xml

i haven't tried it, but if you right-click the contact and choose "get info", then go to the right hand tab (advanced options), there's a tick box for "always show this contact". sounds like what you need, try it out

well i haven't had any more slp crashes (or any other crashes) since updating to your latest build a few days ago
