Stupid Question

Hi. I'd like to use CProwl from the command line, however, I don't know how to build binaries. I do understand how to use the command line, and how to integrate it into my AppleScript workflow. For example, I do understand how to use GrowlNotify from the command line. To be specific, I can easily fi...

Re: Perian, MKV, MPEG2 = yuck

The files I am using are from DVDs, in theory Tivo files should work equally well. The Mac version of MkvToolnix is available here http://jonthn.free.fr/MKVtoolnix/ the person who made the Mac build can be contacted via the information here http://jonthn.free.fr/MKVtoolnix/CONTACT you could try con...

Re: Perian, MKV, MPEG2 = yuck

Via another forum I came across another MKV tool for Mac called MkvToolnix which includes MkvMerge. I used this to merge a .M2V video file three Ac3 audio files and IDX/SUB files for the subtitles. The resulting MKV file like the ones produced using MakeMKV contained unaltered MPEG2 video therefore...

Re: 1.2.2 Version - Stereo issues

I just want to make sure I'm reading this correctly, we need a update from 1.2.2 to fix an issue with AC3? Everything was working and then I updated my Perian. Well, if you are experiencing the problem following the update, and it is bothersome to you, then you don't need another update. A downgrad...

Congrats to the Perian Team

I haven't yet installed and tested Perian 1.2.2, so I'm not yet 100% sure that everything works as promised. (I'll report back in if I discover any problems.) But congrats to the Perian team for tackling the compressed mkv header issue in the first place. I was getting tired of having to run mkv fil...

Re: Common Youtube Extensions?

As long as we're going off-topic to discuss ways to download YouTube videos, my method is to use ClipGrab http://clipgrab.de/download_en.html If you give ClipGrab the address of a YouTube or Vimeo page, it will give you a full choice of resolutions to download, download silently in the background, (...

Re: Green Video in H264 mkv file

I hope the fine Perian folks can eventually find a workaround for this. But in the meantime, you can use MKVtools to "fix" the header so Perian can read the video in the file. (MKVtools is shareware, but you can use it in freeware mode to fix files. Paying the shareware fee only enables qu...

Re: Perian development

Perhaps you should appreciate the gift-givers, and remember that relationship when phrasing your requests so they don't become demands. Yup. Thanks for Perian in the past. Thanks for Perian in the present. And (hopefully) thanks for Perian in the future. Without Perian, I wouldn't be able to stay o...

Re: MPEG2 File Format with AC3 Audio

Then stop trying to indicate that this is easy. If we could add the MPEG file format to perian, we would have done it in 1.0 or 1.1 at the latest. Please don't take offense. I'm not trying to indicate that it's easy. I was just querrying you on whether or not there might be some reasonably simple t...

Re: MPEG2 File Format with AC3 Audio

There is no issue with getting Perian to take over MPEG2 files, the issue is that QuickTime is designed in a way that is incompatible with MPEG type file formats. Apple's component is a hack, one which is likely to completely break soon by the nature of how it works internally. I'm not a developer,...

MPEG2 File Format with AC3 Audio

Hi. I'm looking for a way (any way) to do Quicktime playback of MPEG2 file format movies that have muxed MPEG2 video and AC3 audio. ----- These files play back perfectly in VLC and Toast Video Player, as well as in multiple other OS X apps, so there are obviously the libraries available on the platf...
