Re: Adium insists on using UK spellings

That fixed it. Thanks! I doubt I ever changed that setting, so it's kind of strange it was set to British English.

Adium insists on using UK spellings

My system language is set to US English, but the spellchecker in Adium insists on adhering to UK English (e.g., it marks "color" as being incorrect and wants to substitute it with "colour"). I don't have this problem with any other apps.

I'm running 10.12.6.

Re: Yahoo "unidentified error" or no connection?

When it quit connecting I just assumed it was shut down as they've been planning to do for over a year now. Not to mention there's a stories from late August stating as much. http://english.cri.cn/12394/2014/10/31/3746s850357.htm I assumed we were only able to connect until now because it was still ...

Re: Yahoo "unidentified error" or no connection?

MSN was shut down permanantly a week or two ago, so that's never going to be resolved.

Re: Yahoo "unidentified error" or no connection?

It's sort of amusing that they took that stance right after someone released a workaround. Anyway, I hadn't checked this thread for a couple months or even bothered to see if any progress has been made with Adium. There is an iPad app I used before switching to Pidgin called Remodium though, which r...

Re: Yahoo "unidentified error" or no connection?

While it's nice that a workaround has been created, it seems the Adium developers simply intend to remove Yahoo support in coming releases:

Maybe I'm reading that wrong.

Dude, you don't need to do that. Get MacPorts and install Pidgin natively.

Re: Yahoo "unidentified error" or no connection?

Some of you don't seem to grasp that many of us are not using an older version of OS X by choice but because it's what our hardware supports. Like I said, I'm using Pidgin now so I'm not sure why I'm even following this thread anymore since it seems to be going nowhere.

Re: Yahoo "unidentified error" or no connection?

The "it's Yahoo's fault" thing would make sense if Pidgin broke too. But that's why people are frustrated -- no one is really explaining anything.

Re: Yahoo "unidentified error" or no connection?

Simple, install MacPorts and type "sudo port install pidgin" within xterm (you'll need to grab XQuartz). It will take a while to build, but other than that no big deal. This is probably a good solution for PPC people who've been running out of date versions of Adium, too.

Re: Yahoo "unidentified error" or no connection?

I've switched to Pidgin. It's not incredibly different, and even if the interface doesn't look amazing, it's still better than Instantbird's. It's easily built with MacPorts, though I decided to run it from a Linux box over X11; might as well offload some of the burden from my lowly Core Duo MacBook...

Re: Support for Yahoo Profile Aliases?

Thanks but that's not what I was referring to. In Yahoo if you login with, say -- AdiumYahoo you can have an alternative login linked to the same account for privacy purposes called AdiumYahooPrivate (just an example name, it can be anything). You can give certain people your ordinary ID and others ...

Support for Yahoo Profile Aliases?

Some of you might know that Yahoo allows one to have multiple IDs under the same account. For example AdiumUser could also add or send messages to contacts as his alternate identity, AdiumDork. In the native client, and also in various Linux clients, a drop down menu appears if an account has multip...
