Buddy icons not fetching - on/off again problem...

Postby KatLady81 » Thu May 03, 2007 11:23 pm

This is a constant on again off again issue. I have some of my contacts with custom icons, so I only have to worry about half my contact list.
It's an issue with any/all protocols (AIM, Yahoo, MSN). Sometimes, after either letting onyx doing a cleaning job or new beta install and so on, non-custom buddy icons simply will not show/be fetched.

I was thinking..instead of this being a random headache for me, wouldn't there be a script or maybe some 'add-on' to force Adium to fetch icons?

So when this little issue does happen, you can manually tell Adium to fetch the icons.

am I making any sense? (percocet + thinking = the tendancy to not make any sense)

If you delete Adium's cache and don't delete libpurple's cache, many icons won't be rerequested. If you must empty your cache files, you should also delete ~/Library/Application Support/Adium 2.0/Users/Default/libpurple

(substitute libgaim for older versions of Adium).

Some settings such as Yahoo privacy settings may be lost when that is deleted.

I'm using 1.0.3b6 (newest beta, from the ticket I filed) and there is NO libpurple anywhere in sight in the Adium folder, any of them.

1.0.x in my mind is old. :)

It's still "libgaim" in 1.0.3b at present, though I'll go ahead and fix that for 1.0.3 final.

Well, then why not let everyone be as special as you are and release something newer than 1.0.x :)

And this all still didn't address my question.
Is it possible to manually and/or force Adium to fetch icons?

Deleting the libpurple cache makes libpurple think we don't have any icons, so they will all be rerequested. In the normal course of operation, this is not necessary...
