I'm having the exact same problem listed in this post: viewtopic.php?f=13&t=20753



Entering my information does not work. Facebook chat works fine on the facebook website. Every time I enter in my information, the box goes away for about 2 seconds before reappearing.

This problem exists on both Leopard and Snow Leopard. I'm currently running Snow Leopard on a MBP Early '08.

Update: I was able to finally get Facebook chat to log in on Adium by trying to log out/log in multiple times on the Facebook website. On one log in, it asked me to verify my age on the site. Since then I was able to log in on Adium. Still the problem remains where the CAPTCHA doesn't work when it comes up through Adium, and it's not easy to trigger the CAPTCHA on the Facebook website to clear the problem.

If it matters, I have an AIM account, two GTalk accounts, and an MSN account running as well. I just tried disconnecting all of those accounts and just running the Facebook account, it also didn't work (same issue). When I tried disabling the Facebook account (as I have been doing), Adium flat out crashed. I don't know if it's related or not, but here's the first bit of the crash report:

We can't say much about Facebook because the plugin we use is maintained by an external developer but I can ask him to have a look here.

That snippet from the crashlog doesn't say much, the important parts are missing.

Alright, I have spoken to the author of the plugin:
- the issue has been reported here: http://code.google.com/p/pidgin-faceboo ... ail?id=509
- he requires a debug log in order to fix this.

Yeah I kept getting it, logged out in my browser (firefox) and logged back in and it asks for your date of birth, then it logs you back in. After that I went to reconnect in Adium and it hung then crashed. But worked fine after relaunching. I think its a site issue with facebook making some changes.

Hi, I am having the Facebook captcha issue too, starting yesterday. Since Adium worked fine with Facebook the last one or two weeks (not sure, when I installed Adium) I guess that Facebook is to blame, not Adium.

And if you have problems answering the captcha question, use two digit dates when entering your birth date (for example 77, 07, 07 not 1977, 7, 7), this seems to work. unfortunately not for very long, the captcha usually reappears a bit later. The time varies from about 10 minutes to several hours). I also noticed, that my Facebook account is logging off an on repeatedly, this didn't happen before yesterday, or at least I didn't notice it then.

Edit: Now the two digit dates don't work either, even restarting Adium did not help
I also had problems logging in to my account with Firefox (works now, but I had to re-enter my password)

Exactly the same problem here. Capcha comes, fb website logs itself out, no dates work with Adium. Only started yesterday.

It's not fixed for me. It continually loops through the captcha/login screens and disabling the Facebook account crashes Adium

I concur with terencepalmer. facebook captcha is not working for me and I just updated. before that it was working just fine.

Sorry for the wrong information.
Actually, the bug above I linked to doesn't report the bug as fixed either. I wonder how this got into the changelogs for 1.3.7 and 1.4b10 as fixed.

I've got the same issue. nothing seems to work. This suddenly started happening yesterday.

Deleting accounts.plist and recreating all the accounts seems to make it work.

A simpler way is probably just to delete that particular account, and add it again, but since I accidentally wiped my stuff, I couldn't check (thankfully my logs are stored elsewhere)

I have been having this FB captcha problem for a while, only at work where i am behind a uni proxy.

So for me, Adium does not work with facebook, and that's a pity.

I've also been affected by this problem since yesterday. Can't use facebook chat through Adium anymore and the CAPTCHA doesn't work.

just removing the account and re-adding it proved to be unsuccessful.

Now nothing seems to be successful. Facebook keeps failing.

Ugh same issue. A brief error message flashes by saying something like are you logged in at multiple locations before the unsolvable captcha appears. That situation of multiple logins -- probably true for most Adium users who also remain logged on through their browsers -- was never a problem before.

I started having this problem yesterday as well. I'm using 1.4b13 on OS X 10.6.1 I am able to connect to Facebook using Pidgin on Windows, so I don't know that it's a Facebook issue...
