macOS Sierra compatibility

Postby darmok » Tue Sep 27, 2016 5:24 pm

Hi all,

Today I got annoyed with NNW issues, so I'm looking for a new RSS reader. Vienna seems quite nice.

I'm running Sierra on a Mac Mini. Having some difficulties with Vienna 3.1.5 :e14f77e:.

The File > Import menu brings up a badly broken file dialog.

Image

Preferences > Appearance > Select font buttons bring up empty font dialogs.

Yep, same thing here. Hadn’t checked until I saw this post…. all the same issues as OP.

I just want to confirm that I'm seeing the described behaviour on 3.1.6 RC 2.

I saw the same problem with the font panel. I have seen the same thing on a couple of other programs I was installing and configuring under Sierra, so it must be an Apple issue that is triggered by some programs.

The good news is, the fonts are there! Just grab that small font panel by an edge or corner and drag it bigger. The font list is hiding down a ways, under some blank space, and once you expose them, the list does not seem to be scrollable, either, so just make it big enough to get to the fonts you want.

Now, for the reason I opened this thread. I, too, got tired of NNW, and am returning to Vienna after having used version 2.6.0.2601 several years ago.

The problem I am seeing is that my messages disappear after reading them, despite having set "Move articles to Trash" to "Never". It doesn't matter if I read them with a smart folder, such as "Unread Articles", or if I read them within each subscription's folder. They stay around if you leave them in the Article List, until you either leave the folder you are using, or until you refresh. Then they just disappear. Has anyone else seen this?

I am using version 3.1.5.

Check View->Filter By. Is it set to "Unread Messages"?

Yes, it was, and thanks! That must have been the default, as I don't recall changing that. At any rate, now all my messages are in their folders, even ones from days past.

Hrm I haven't seen any of these issues and I've been running Vienna on Sierra since the first developer preview.
I'll look in to it. Sorry about the delay in posting a response but I was away on business.

Sierra compatibility

I recently downloaded Sierra, and Vienna has become completely non-functioning. All of my subscriptions disappeared, and I am unable to add any new subscriptions. I've removed the application and reinstalled with no success. Currently running version 3.1.5 :e14f77e:

Sorry everyone for the delay, I'm looking into this now.
I have been able to reproduce the font menu issue so I'll start with that.

No issues with Sierra on a '16 MB here.

Status update:
I have confirmed that this is a problem on every Sierra system I've had access to.
Unfortunately I'm still trying to determine the cause of this. I can't find any similar issues in Google and there doesn't appear to be any obvious changes in Sierra that would cause us to have issues.
Sorry :(

Good news! Erik has contributed a patch to solve this issue and I will be releasing Vienna 3.1.6 to fix it by the weekend.

Thanks for your patience everyone.

The latest update hasn't fixed anything for me. I cannot view any subscriptions, nor can I add any new ones.

That's probably because your problem has nothing to do with the rest of the thread.
