Long lasting no sound bug

Postby MathiasLM » Sat Jan 08, 2011 11:33 am

Let me start out by saying how much I love this plugin :D
It's really simple and great!

Since around the 10.6.4 update however, I've experienced this bug:
When I shut down OS X (or reboot) and start it back up, all video-playback applications using Quicktime-based video (Quicktime, Quicklook, iMovie, iTunes..), has audio disabled. (not VLC)
I've found out, I can fix it by going to the Perian preference pane, remove it and then reenable it - this fixes it until next time, I shut it off.

I havn't really been bothered much by it, since I rarely shut my computer off, and since the fix is relatively easy. But now it's been there for quite a while, so I figured I'd tell you - my guess is, it's a simple fix :)

Is Perian installed for all users or only the current?
If current, do you use file vault?
What happens if you log out and log back in (not shutdown or reboot)?

Check Library/QuickTime and Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/Components/ (both in your home dir and in the root of the drive) for components listed here: http://www.perian.org/#support
