Just created an E-Mail to Prowl-Push Service: mail2prowl.de

Postby Tscherno » Mon Jul 13, 2009 3:14 pm

After a little Hacking (and a Domain registration B-) ) the service is testable.

Just send a Mail to
APIKEY@mail2prowl.de
e.g. xx5cccaaf4eb0f73f099ffaa1d94458b412345a3@mail2prowl.de

Then the Subject line and Senders Adress should be pushed to the device associated to the API-Key.

It's very early development and i just want to test the whole thing.

For example, you can also set an forward filter in Gmail to that adress and it will be pushed...

Yes, it is an interesting service. I'd love to forward all of my gmail to your address to get instant notifications, but I don't really know what personal information will end up getting sent out.
It might be okay to just forward from some specific addresses. I'll have a think.

Now the subject + body (text-part only) is transmitted as notification.

I just can say that all mail is deleted as they are transmitted to the webservice. At the moment i'm logging errors, thats all.

Solved the encoding issues... Maybe i should request an providerkey to prevent problems with the API-limit.

I'm very interested in this. I have been using it with some push notifications I've been sending from a webcam I have setup to notify me when there is motion outside my house. Has been working pretty well for the last few hours. Let me know if I can help test anything further....

I don't think it's working for me. I sent a couple of messages and they haven't come through yet...

I'll try to troubleshoot a little bit and see if I'm doing something wrong.

You shouldn't do:

if (verify) { add }

Add will fail with the same API key that verify fails with, except you're using 2 API calls when only 1 is necessary.

Thanks for looking on it. I removed the verify-call.

Nice idea.

Suggestion: Rather than having it wait for 20 seconds, you could configure your mail server to automatically dump incoming mail straight into the perl script. This would require a fair amount of modification to the script though. =-)

I've just set up forwarding rules from gmail to just forward from certain contacts, and the notification does come through, but with no subject or body.

Is see
"M2P iphone4@myemailaddress.com" and
"Subj:"

But no subject after "Subj:".

I sent from hotmail account to gmail with gmail forwarding to mail2prowl.de and the actual subject was "test redirect from hotmail".
I also tried sending direct to mail2prowl.de from gmail, and again no visible subject (or body).

Has this broken recently? (I think it worked when I tested a few weeks ago).

Very strange. It broke in the last 3 hours. Don't know why, but the subjects where missing suddenly. I restarted the script and it's working again...

Hey this is a great service! Thanks for setting it up :-) Now that google allows e-mail notification of google voice SMS, I have been forwarding to your server.

A small request: Could you add special parsing for the SMS notifications from GV? As it is now, the actually SMS doesn't make it into the text of the notification, since there is a lot of noise there. Example:

Code: Select all

from   John Doe(SMS) <8005551212.8005551212._DDx78jS-b@txt.voice.google.com>
to   beville@gmail.com
date   Mon, Sep 12, 2009 at 5:02 PM
subject   SMS from John Doe [(800) 555-1212]
mailed-by   grandcentral.bounces.google.com
signed-by   google.com

Hi, this is a GV SMS!

Maybe you could recognize that it's a message from txt.voice.google.com and parse it special to just show sender and actual message?

Thanks!!
