[How-to] GV Mobile Launcher

For all of you out there with GV Mobile installed (from Cydia) and a jailbroken iPhone, you can add an url handler for it by editing some files. You'll need OpenSSH installed, some WiFi for your phone and computer, and an SCP client like WinSCP. I'm assuming you already know the basics of SCPing into your iPhone.

1. Open Info.plist (using something like plist Editor for Windows) which is inside /Applications/GV Mobile.app.
2. Look for these lines:

Code: Select all

   <key>CFBundleSupportedPlatforms</key>
   <array>
      <string>iPhoneOS</string>
   </array>

3. Make a new line after that and insert this in there:

Code: Select all

   <key>CFBundleURLTypes</key>
   <array>
      <dict>
         <key>CFBundleURLName</key>
         <string>com.gvmobile</string>
         <key>CFBundleURLSchemes</key>
         <array>
            <string>gvmobile</string>
         </array>
      </dict>
   </array>

4. Save your file and reupload it to the same folder (make a backup first, just in case)

You'll have to manually edit the Redirections list for Prowl to get it to launch:

5. Look for Prowl.app inside a folder in /User/Applications
6. Open the file Redirections.plist inside the Documents folder, which is inside the folder Prowl.app is in.
7. Insert these lines after a </dict> tag:

Code: Select all

   <dict>
      <key>Display</key>
      <string>GV Mobile</string>
      <key>Key</key>
      <string>gvmobile</string>
      <key>URL</key>
      <string>gvmobile:</string>
   </dict>

8. Save your file and reupload it to the same folder (you can click "Update Launchable List" in the Redirections settings to restore the list to normal)
9. Reboot?

Now you can go in the Redirection settings and add a redirection for GV Mobile. I know this is a complete hack, but it works :P, at least maybe until the developer adds a native url handler. You can set GV Mobile to be always backgrounded and it launches even quicker.

GV MOBILE +

It would be great if you could post an update for how to manage this mod for the new 2.0 gv.

It looks in the plist for GV 2.0, that it is setup to open to SMS, or Voicemail, as needed. But I havent had any success adding these redirects to prowl, gvm, gvmsms, and so on. Looks promising though. Thanks for this tutorial, it did give me many months of smooth operation.

Thanks!

If you update your launchable list in the Prowl Settings, you should see two redirections for the new GV Mobile +. I just tested the SMS one and it seems to work well, so no more need for my hack. Glad to know it was useful for some though :).

<string>GV Voicemail</string>
<key>Key</key>
<string>gv voice</string>
<key>URL</key>
<string>gvm://vm</string>
</dict>
<dict>
<key>Display</key>
<string>GV SMS</string>
<key>Key</key>
<string>gv sms</string>
<key>URL</key>
<string>gvm://sms</string>

ok, I am a little confused.. I think this is outdated...

the file Redirections.plist does not exist.., but a RedirectDefaults.plist does exist.. but there isn't even a Documents folder.. so I am not sure what I should edit here... any pointers on the latest versions of this would be great, as this thing currenty does not work for me..
