I imagine (but haven't verified) this occurs because the removal does what it says, but applications register automatically when launched and it's not suppressed. There probably needs to be a bit more logic there to ask if you want to reset (remove all current settings) or deny (block from registering with Growl). It would also need a way to remove the deny setting if you decided you wanted it back.

this is why i think the old Growl notifications that notified you when an application registers itself should come back. I don't think it's just for logging, or for developers, it's useful to anyone who uses growl, especially if you only like choice applications using growl and they don't activate any notifications until a later time when would not be convenient to the user.

How would a notification of registration have any effect on the removal situation? It was redundant since registration should be seamless and invisible.

Because a notification of registration alerts the user that an application registered, and you can remove it if you don't want that one. If you're using growl you typically like having notifications, why make the one of the biggest parts of growl, registration, invisible when the whole point of growl is to be notified of important things. and removing the notifications from growl saying a app has registered would be just as easy to silence as one who wants to remove certain applications anyway.

Why make it visible when it annoys more people than it helps?

I think we should make registration not confuse people, which in turn makes all of this a moot point. I'm with bgannin here, albeit we're going to need to iron out the actual way to do it.
