HardwareGrowler stopped when I ...

Postby deckeda » Mon Jul 14, 2008 4:05 am

... followed the directions on the "extras" page here to make it not show in the Dock. As far as I could see, I successfully edited the .plist file and "touched" it with Terminal. HG's icon went generic, which I suppose is expected. I luanched it but got no notifications afterward. Removed the .plist edit and re-launched and it's working again.

Oh --- I also wanted to mention that the choices in the disply style popups don't usally match the preview. It's like you choose a style and it shows you the preview of a choice two down in the list.

Not sure about the issue in the second of your posts.

It sounds like you didn't edit the plist properly. Perhaps we ought to provide a better solution to that. Users shouldn't have to edit Plists...

Can't think of a good solution right now though...

I honestly don't know the situation around this, but I always wondered why this couldn't just be a preference option in HG's preferences? It's been requested before, and has been acknowledged for later releases, but I still don't know why it hasn't just been done.

I suppose it's a user-experience thing: Once you check the preference to make it invisible - the UI for turning that preference off disappears. To the casual user it's irreversible.

Ya that's basically it. It's a catch 22 really

I suppose we could distribute two versions - one that's 'invisible' and one that's not - but that seems rather inefficient.
