I have a problem with "growlhelperapp not responding" in Activity Monitor at startup (computer startup). It last for 2 or 3 minutes then everything is fine. The problem is that during this 2 or 3 minutes safari and firefox can't start. When I try to start them, there process in the activity monitor just go in "not responding" mode and nothing happens. When growlhelperapp become "responsive" again, suddenly safari and firefox finish their startup. This leads to me having to wait 3 additional minutes before being able to open a web page after starting my computer, which is quite annoying.
So, my question is: what is growlhelperapp doing on startup that takes him 3 minutes? No high CPU activity, no high disk activity, so it seems it is waiting for something. Has anybody any clue about this?
The Growl forums have moved to Google Groups, this forum is read only.

Please take a sample of GrowlHelperApp while it is hung, then post that sample here. You'll use Activity Monitor's Sample Process command, which is in the menus and which you can add to the toolbar.
Code: Select all
Sampling process 2559 for 3 seconds with 1 millisecond of run time between samples
Sampling completed, processing symbols...
Analysis of sampling GrowlHelperApp (pid 2559) every 1 millisecond
2337 _LSOpenItemsWithRole_Common(FSRef const*, long, unsigned long, AEKeyDesc const*, LSApplicationParameters_V1 const*, ProcessSerialNumber*, long, FSRef*)
2337 _LSOpenItemsWithHandler_CFDictionaryApplier(void const*, void const*, void*)
2337 sendToModernProcess(__CFMachPort*, unsigned long, AEDesc const*, long)
Total number in stack (recursive counted multiple, when >=5):
Sort by top of stack, same collapsed (when >= 5):
Sample analysis of process 2559 written to file /dev/stdout
