Growl not running correctly, please help.

Postby bjoure@gmail.com » Wed Sep 02, 2009 1:41 am

Hi everyone, I have been using Growl for as long as I have a mac and it's an awesome program. I think it really add unique value to Mac OS X. I just upgraded my macbook to Snow Leopard but Growl has not been working for several months and no one in my vicinity knows what's wrong. :???: I was hoping upgrading to Snow Leopard would fix it but it didn't.

I am running SL retail version in 64bit and Growl 1.1.6. Growl preference pane asks me to restart System Preference in 32bit mode whenever I use it but I guess that's normal.

I can preview different notification styles, they fade in and fade out beautifully. I have a lot of applications listed, Mail, iTunes, Adium, Skype, etc. just like when they worked properly. But no notifications show up. I don't get a notice when I change a track in iTunes, or receive new emails, or got message from Adium. Growl is running at startup, but NO notifications whatsoever.

How can I fix it? I really like to have Growl working.

Actually, that's System Preferences asking you that question, because a 64-bit process cannot load a 32-bit-only plug-in (such as a prefpane). The Growl prefpane isn't even loaded yet, so it can't ask the question—if it were loaded, relaunching System Preferences to load it wouldn't be necessary.

… but I guess that's normal.

For now. Growl.prefPane 1.2 will support 64-bit.

Anything about Growl in the Console log? Console is in /Applications/Utilities.
