Difficulty with GrowlMail

Postby kng442 » Mon Aug 14, 2006 7:01 am

Running Mail 1.3.11 (v622/624) under OSX 10.3.9 on iBook G4 800MHz

Followed instructions -- quit Mail, double-clicked GrowlMail.pkg to install, re-started Mail after installer finished, went to Mail preferencess ... NO GROWLMAIL TAB!

I've re-booted with no discenable change.

Suggestions?

Quit mail, and run these two commands from your terminal:

Code: Select all

defaults write com.apple.mail EnableBundles 1
defaults write com.apple.mail BundleCompatibilityVersion 2

OK, I've done that.

GrowlMail is now showing up under the Applications tab in Growl preferences, but...

Mail now consistently crashes before it finishes loading.

I notice that the second command you gave me is

Code: Select all

defaults write com.apple.mail BundleCompatibilityVersion 2

but I'm not using Mail 2, rather Mail 1.3.11. Could this have anything to do with my problem?

Did you ever have Growl .5 or .6 installed?

Nope.

ETA: just checked my download folders -- this was the first time I'd ever even downloaded any version of Growl.

Open up Console in /Applications/Utilities and see if it says anything.

That's a question I've never been asked before. Um, yes.

FWIW, Mail.crash.log says:

Host Name: ibook.local
Date/Time: 2006-08-13 23:59:05 -0600
OS Version: 10.3.9 (Build 7W98)
Report Version: 2

Command: Mail
Path: /Applications/Internet & Email/Mail.app/Contents/MacOS/Mail
Version: 1.3.11 (622)
PID: 360
Thread: 0

Exception: EXC_BAD_ACCESS (0x0001)
Codes: KERN_PROTECTION_FAILURE (0x0002) at 0x00000000

I can post more of it, if you're really starved for entertainment.

Actually, more of it is what is needed to see what's going on :)

Well, it's 6-1/2 pages long. Shall I PM or email it?

All we need is the threads. So it'll say thread one, and count from a random number to 1 upwards. We don't need the stuff below that.

Speaking of crashing ...

Postby kng442 » Mon Aug 14, 2006 11:10 am

It's time for me to crash, Tick. Is there any other info you need from me before I turn in?

I really appreciate your looking at this. Also, I do recognize that you need to sleep sometime too.

I can't quite shake the feeling I must have done something head-smackingly stupid to cause it.

Kathy
