ok how about this then.... instead of "hide" how about make the ENTIRE Contact list (not just the background of the contact list) semi-transparent while in the background?

carlj7 was right, and the reason I would like this feature is because I don't really want to see the buddy list on my desktop at all, unless someone IMs me, then I would like to see their status and see who else is on. I guess that might sound a little selfish, but that's what I would like

It would be great to unhide the Adium buddy list window when you have a IM session open
