Problem is looking to be with MSN service. I went back to latest Messenger client (6.0.2) for Mac and I am having the same problem.

Since upgrading to 1.0.3, MSN buddies are reporting that new messages to me bounce frequently. I am not sure if the upgrade is the issue or whether msn is having issues. Keen to hear if anyone else is experiencing similar problems. Is downgrading to v1.0.2 as simple as going back to old application ...
