Well, it is likely having to do with the way Adium interfaces with the servers. It's not MSN alone though, as the grouping problems were with a few of my AIM contacts as well.

Deleting and re-adding the contacts in Adium itself has solved the problem for me.

A workaround: It seems to work appropriately if you delete the contact, then add them back through the menu, making sure that the correct group is selected when you're adding the contact again.

I haven't tested it thoroughly, but it's working so far. :)

I came to this forum for the first time today, specifically for this problem. I love Adium, but this is really obnoxious! Every time I restart Adium, my contacts go back to another group. I've tried deleting the groups... I've also tried deleting all the adium preference files and reinstalling, all ...
