Tick, on a 10.3.9 French OS, even with the code trick above, I still have Mail crashing at startup with GrowMail installed.

I face the same thing here also on 10.3.9
Note: one over 10 attempts to launch Mail, I was able to open it and I noticed no GrowlMail preference in the Prefrences pane.

In Adium > Preferences > Events tab, do you set-up rules for Adium sending information to Growl ?
