I've used adium since 2004 and I've never needed to play with DNS servers. This issue came up 2 weeks ago, I believe around the 1.3.1 update (or whatever the last update was). The issue is only at home. Not sure how, all of the sudden, my router hates the yahoo servers. Also, like the initial poster...
