I really was hoping to use this type of capability with Ping.fm, which can be used to update Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, Jaiku, Plurk, Identi.ca, etc.

I'm looking for a way to count characters within new posts. I hunger for that capability so I can easily ensure that I am staying within character limits when sending to an IM to any micro-blogging service such as Twitter.
