I take your point, Catfish-Man. And certainly I would be very pleased to see Jabber have a higher profile in the Adium community. Perhaps one of the admins will add a Jabber ID field to our BB profiles :D

Google talk - what's the fuss about?

Lots of excitement over at Digg about the launch of Google Talk. It's Jabber, so Adium supports it fine. But am I missing something here? It's just another Jabber server as far as I can see, and Jabber has zillions of open servers already. If you want to try it out, my successful settings are Connec...

OK, so you are opening this out now from just Jabber chatroom names to all long names? Sounds reasonable if other users also experience similar problems to us Jabberers. The best for recently used: an autocomplete text field like the Address Bar in any browser. Sounds good to me. You still didn't explain the alias part. You're right. In the interface you mean? Store locations of previously-visited groups and display them in one of:
  • a submenu to "Join Group Chat..."
  • a dropdown in the Join Chat dialog
  • an entry in the buddy list

Removing 'dead' buddies from Jabber chatrooms

When someone signs out of Jabber they are correctly displayed in the main buddy list but they continue to show as present in any chatroom they are in. I have seen this persist even overnight when the chatroom would normally be deleted from the Jabber server. Anyone know a workaround to this?

Definitely a highly-desirable feature for a future release.

Now use Jabber exclusively. I like that it's open source. I like the lack of advertising and I like the flexibility. I think it has tons of potential in education.
