I have a similar issue. I upgraded to Snow Leopard this weekend and all of the sudden have this problem. If Adium is opened in Leopard the buddy icon works fine. iChat also shows the icon correctly, but if Adium is opened right after in SL the icon is visible for a minute but then quickly disappear...
