I removed GrowlSafari after posting the message and indeed Safari has remained stable all afternoon. Of course the nature of random crashes makes it difficult to prove it one way or the other, but so far, the culprit really does appear to be GrowlSafari. I installed GrowlSafari after upgrading to Growl 0.7.2, and immediately found that Safari was crashing incessantly. Almost hourly, in fact.
