I know I'm late to the party as well, but having the same issue. OS X 10.6.2, and Adium 1.3.8. I'm not using growl, and there are noticeable delays from my typing the input, and it being sent. I have not noticed any other delays within SL. I'll look for the 1.4 beta, and see if that helps. Now where...
