Re: Parts of the website not working

It appears that there are two issues:

1. The certificate for trac.adium.im is expired.
2. Either the PostgreSQL Python module or PostgreSQL development headers aren't installed.

Both are issues I'd be able to help with.

You can also download the app, get info in the Finder on the application bundle and look at the "Kind" property.

Certainly seems to be the consensus :)

Not from me. I find the search result split to be a fairly serious issue.

except now we have a problem for Joe User who leaves the window open all the time. If the window is open for a week, every conversation from that week ends up within the log file for Monday. That's no good. Agreed! Excellent point. I'm often one of those people. Any per-window-open implementation w...

In a sense that is what's done with every message, history or not. Catfish_man is going to be looking at how to use the DOM system more effectively, but right now elements have to be added one at a time; it's not slow on the order of 5 to 10 items, but adding an entire conversation would lag openin...

You appear to be discussing the 'division into separate log files' mainly as a question of GUI usability. (Apart from the mentioned disadvantages of having huge/many files.) But is that really the main concern? Does the 'log file implementation details' even need to be exposed to the end user in su...

In addition to Catfish_Man's point, note that this would require message history to be tied to message styles -- change your style and your history shows up with HTML formatting from that previous style? I never suggested doing that, Catfish_Man misunderstood me. Just recreate the HTML as it was du...

Using skills people already have DOES pay off sometimes...

Yeah yeah yeah.

Just a little extra work on the developer end (which I was willing to do) and it would have been even easier than the HTML stuff. Regardless, I was joking anyway.

That would mean we'd have to save a bunch of html on window-close, which wouldn't solve our "message history lost on crash" bug. Ew. God no. Recreate it from the log file. This reminds me of when the WebKit message view was still being created and I was screaming "use XML and CSS." But I'm not gonn...

Wait wait wait. Shenanigans! Why would you have to add them individually? Just recreate the HTML as it was during the last session and pipe it into WebKit on creation of the object instance.

No, the default is 5 lines because adding messages to the webkit view is slow. Whether the information is parsed from the log file or from separate storage, that remains the case. Shoot. How slow? In any case, this just isn't something that needs to be under the control of the user. Displaying logs...

I still find this to be a soft divider, much as day is. This system will instead make assumptions (which are always devilish in programming) based on an arbitrary setting. Yes it is still somewhat arbitrary, I agree, but it's less so than the window state or the current date. Window state can poten...

Yup, if that's the option you choose. The other options would act like they do now.

This addresses display more than the file writing and management. It addresses both display and file management. If each log file is supposed to represent a conversation, then they are two parts of the same mechanism. In addition, you run the chance of still creating large files (i.e., thousands up...

That's correct.

Colin, I'm going to complicate things with a third option. Sincere apologies, but you (and the other devs) might like this. The basic premise of this thread seems to be "how do we get Adium to recognize when conversations begin and end?" The problem is that neither the daily approach nor the per win...
