Issue With XML Making Vienna Run Exceptionally Slowly

One site I take several feeds from suffers from a degree of SPAM postings. Recently a particular type has been causing Vienna to run really slowly. The issue (exceptionally slow running) occurs when a list containing these SPAM "articles" is on display. Delete them or switch to a different...

Re: how does vienna tell if a rss item is differnent?

Hi Deimos and Rob, Sorry for taking so much time to look at this. In fact, Vienna checks the article title and article body to make sure that they have changed ; if they have, the article is marked as updated. This is reasonable for most feeds (blogs and forums where each contribution is an article...

Suggestion: Mark Read/Unread

When there is more than one article selected and some selected are read and others unread, the right click pop-up ("context") menus should ideally include both "Mark as Read" as well as the "Mark as Unread" menu options. At present it just has "Mark as Unread"...

Re: how does vienna tell if a rss item is differnent?

Developer have changed the header date and Vienna is still not showing articles that are updated. A good example is https://www.lonelyplanet.com/thorntree/forums/americas-central-america.atom . Which is quite an active feed, lots of articles being updated but a reasonable number of new articles so i...

Re: Weird plist overridden

I just tried this out, and I don't think it does what Deimos wants. When I highlighted an article with the preference set to the non-default value, it didn't get marked read at all, which seems like the opposite of what is desired here. (I also kind of would like a shorter delay, but I've gotten us...

Weird plist overridden

I find the Mark Read Delay too long. I have to consciously slow down skipping over articles that don't interest me or they end up still marked as unread. As there is no preference for this I edited the plist "MarkReadInterval". Defaults to 0.5 so I edited it to 0.1 (ideally I rather no del...

Re: how does vienna tell if a rss item is differnent?

FYI: The site developer (who I have also been discussing this with) believes there may be issues with the <updated> tag in the header section (i.e. outside the <entry> sections. They are checking and will let me know if/when site changes have been implemented. They feel that if the header <updated> ...

Re: how does vienna tell if a rss item is differnent?

I asked because I have my doubts and looking into it I now suspect it is not working properly. I have been suspicions on a number of feeds (from the same site) where I used to get loads of updated articles flagged but since changing to Vienna have never seen a single updated article on the site. Yo...

First, Vienna tests the guid element if there is one.
If no guid is available, Vienna checks the title and the date/time of the post.

Suggestion re: Columns in article list using vertical layout

In the vertical layout the "columns" seems limited and when you add things like Folder, date, etc., they do not create a new column but rather move to a 2nd line in the "Headlines" column". Meaning, if you want to change the sort order you have to go through the menu system ...

Suggestion re: Sort Ordering

Feature Request: Can the sort order for a feed (or folder) be unique to that feed or folder. I like to sort different feeds/folders differently and having a change made when viewing one folder perpetuated to all other folders is not ideal (actually, for me, something of a nuisance).

Re: WebKit font Size Issue

Have you looked at "Preferences..." -> "Appearance", and does this do what you want? Directly editing plist files is not best practice and may not always work as expected. Only allows you to set the font size for the lists (folder list and articles list). You can set the font si...

WebKit font Size Issue

Running Vienna 3 Beta 20, there is an issue with the font size used in the article display pane (lower right). On my rMBP 13", the font size is rather large (meaning you really can't read much !!). Looking in the plist file I see t is set as 16 !!. So I (exit Vienna and) edit the plist file to ...
