Re: Feature Request: Smart Folder Unread badge

This was debated before. The reason it wasn't done originally was due to performance. On non-smart folders, the unread count is part of the folder metadata. On smart folders, it would have to be computed dynamically and there would be an inherent cost involved in updating the unread count on the sma...

Re: Build requirements

I mean that there probably hasn't been sufficient reason to update the minimum to a later build. I don't have any great insight into the build requirement any more but that would be my guess. As long as it builds on current platforms then I don't see that being much of an issue.

Re: Build requirements

Probably not been updated in a while, but I'm building on Mac OSX 10.8.4 with XCode 4 with no issues and I suspect the other developers are too. I'm not sure what the minimum run-time requirements are though but previously only the current and previous major version were officially supported in orde...

Re: Another crash report with log file attached

The crash is happening in WebKit as is similar to the Safari crash reported here: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/2203614?start=0&tstart=0 although that one is about 4 years old. I can't reproduce this personally but possibly some browser extension might be culpable here. Unfortunately sinc...

Re: How can i transport/export tagged articles??

Why not just copy the ~/Library/Application Support/Vienna folder to the other machine? That will copy across the database complete with article flags. For good measure, you can also copy the ~/Library/Preferences/uk.co.opencommunity.vienna2.plist file to preserve your settings.

Re: Performance thoughts around Vienna architecture

I didn't look into this originally due to the complexities of juggling data between different threads. However this is certainly something that is worth pursuing. Perhaps one approach might be to emulate the blocking nature of the current logic in another thread so that you preserve the current beha...

Re: 3.0b.2821 is out

Impressive! Looking forward to checking this out soon. Glad to see Vienna is continuing and that the long planned Google Reader support is now in place. It has been a while since I've had the time to catch up on progress but I was pleasantly surprised to see the announcement of v3 on the Vienna web ...

I've no problem accepting patches for 2.6, including code reviews and localized testing - I'm already doing that.

Vienna 2.6 Beta

For a long while now we've had changes from Curtis Faith sitting in the 2.6 trunk but never released other than for private builds. I've built and uploaded it to here: http://sourceforge.net/projects/vienna-rss/files/TestVersions/2.6.0.2600/ Now before you install it, please understand a couple of i...

Re: After Installation Safari 5.1 DP all Styles Lost

Fixed in the 2.5.1.2502 version I uploaded to the Vienna web site. (Unfortunately I'm having a lot of problems getting signed Sparkle updating to work so I've given up on that for now and Check For Updates won't work for this version).

No, sorry. Still trying but this is a tough one. I'll need to think of a different approach but without a consistent repro, it is going to be hard to debug.

I just submitted a fix to svn so folks building Vienna privately can pick it up. For the rest of you feeling confident enough, you can edit the ShareWithTwitter plugin in the Vienna package (right-click on Vienna icon, Show Package Contents, drill down to SharedSupport and Plugins, then ShareWithTwi...

Re: After Installation Safari 5.1 DP all Styles Lost

Confirmed. Something changed in WebKit in Lion - possibly related to some security fix on their side around the path to the CSS. I did a quick hack and was able to verify this by changing the base URL in the part of the source code that loads the CSS to be the local styles folder rather than the pag...

Re: Version 2.6 and Beating NetNewsWire

Simple answer - nobody is developing Vienna any further. The work on 2.6 basically halted due to lack of time and resources. I'm struggling to find time to do simple bug fixes to 2.5. However since Vienna is open source, there's nothing to stop somebody else stepping up and taking on ownership. Both...

Re: complex rules

Two things: 1. Vienna was designed for simplicity. We had to draw a line around what functionality we would implement and how far we would take it. The more versatile the feature, often the more testing required and more potential for things going wrong. You're right that the SQL database supports m...

Re: Bug: "Customize Toolbar ..." not working (2501)

The attached log suggests where the problem may lay: <Warning>: CGSResolveShmemReference : window.RO : Reference offset (39040) exceeds bounds (32768) on shmem obj 0x185b It looks distinctly like a memory corruption bug. At the time the problem is happening, the Mac OSX Toolbox is attempting to draw...

OK - going to take a look at this one for build 2502 even though I can't reproduce it using any of the repro steps mentioned in this thread. Sorry for the delay - as you've surmised, we've all been off doing other things.

I'm running Vienna on 10.6.7 and I've not seen any crashes personally. But there's certainly a combination of things that could contribute to a failure.

Does this still reproduce?
