AIM Bots Blocking
Hi folks, after years of virtually no bots, it seems there has been a definite uptick of them with AIM. I found the plug-in referenced here: http://adium.im/blog/2008/11/working-on-stopping-spam/ and I was SO looking forward to make them do some simple math to weed them out. Unfortunately, the plugi...

Re: Growl[1.2] installation pops up when helper app is stopped.
Actually, I've seen #2 as a regular growl user.
I have a TON of start up items. If Growl (1.2) has not yet been started, but is properly installed, and I fire up something like Adium, it offers to install Growl.
If I give my Mac time to finish it's startup routine, this does not happen.

Re: Notification script for Mail.app available
No offense to the Growl team, but that Mail plug-in has been sporadically wacky (for me) and always seems to break when someone in Cupertino just glances in its direction. The last time it broke, someone here wrote a pretty decent AppleScript that I've salted to my taste and I haven't looked back si...

Re: Growl not working for ichat 5.0 (Snow Leopard)
You probably want to go post that in the author's blog, as a comment to the latest Chax. He's pretty good about checking it for issues. http://ksuther.com/blog/ You can also read why he's now using an application loader instead of an Input Manager, hence your need to open Chax to use it with iChat r...

Re: What's this Message Window Style?
That's the Adium HUD Theme/Skin, and yes, Adium is hacked a bit. Some of the folks over at MacThemes are wizards. Here is the thread on the HUD theme.

Do you have any Cron jobs that might be scheduled in 5 minute intervals?

Re: Superdrive Noise every 5 Minutes since 10.5.6 update
I had this too, I'm fairly certain it is OmniGrowl, possibly it's SMART check option. I turned that off specifically and a couple of other items I don't use and the drive is nice and quiet again.
Something has changed in 10.5.6 for sure, I never had this in 10.5.5.

Thanks, but I don't have that setting in my router and it's not one of the Linksys models that will accept a 3rd party firmware (and oh how I wish it would!)

Re: Start Growl via AppleScript
While Growl is showing in the Finder menu, I can (of course) Stop and Start Growl notifications by selecting the "Stop Growl" and "Start Growl" menu options. What I would like to do is the same thing but via AppleScript. The stop I can do with just "tell application "G...

Re: Growl + Vuze (Azureus)
I don't think Vuze has built in Growl support, it's done with the Ribbit plugin.
You should make sure you have the very latest plugin from the author's site here:

Re: Network notifications
I've tested it, and it works okay on my wired network but not Wired -> Wireless. My Linksys router is probably at fault here. I really think that Growl needs to have an "expert tab" or something for network notifications that allows a user to enter a static IP/hostname and port to forward ...

Re: Emoticons in the Contact List?
I'm not sure how fast it would be to run all of the status messages and display names visible in the contact list through the filtering mechanisms. It's possible, but probably not a very great idea. iChat does it. I hadn't used it in quite some time, when I noticed I found it quite... nice! I note ...

Re: Transfer settings to new computer
Hi everyone, I plan on reformatting my computer and I was wondering what settings files I would need to back up over and where they are stored (if at all possible) so that I can in effect have 'the same Growl' once reformatted. Thanks so much I believe you'll want: [hard drive]/[your userfolder]/Li...

Definitely have the same problems as all of you. This worked for a little while on both my iMac and MacBook, then just stopped showing contacts. It says I'm connected, but that's about it. When I log into Facebook via http, it disconnects Adium's Facebook and reconnects when I log off (as expected) ...

Re: growl and call monitor for Incoming phone calls
I use NCID http://ncid.sourceforge.net/ and some Growl scripts for it http://www.davidlaporte.org/tools/osxcallerid.html It takes a little bit to get working, I have Vonage so I monitor CID packets over my LAN using NCID. My house server running OS X looks for the CID info and the clients, using Dav...
