can BG colors be applied? i have been confused about this

if you could set it up to send it to any email that would be awesome. like if i was in class and i could check my email, and i found that someone had imed about something while i was there and that i didnt have to go back home to get the IM, that would be sweet

Ok so i was looking at http://forums.cocoaforge.com/viewtopic.php?t=953 and i saw the pic of the message view which i really liked except i thought the choice of colors was kinda ugly, anyways (i think this may have been talked about a bit before but i couldn't really find a post to piggyback off of...
