You know you can use the universal text to speech from the services menu within the application (adium) menu.

Same here, although it took about five minutes of trying to connect before I got the error. Must be a Microsoft server problem. yeah its very much a Microsoft issue... as stated on the MSN Messenger server status page. see the link above.
