We are aware of this problem and hopefully it'll be fixed for .8.

You can change the theme of individual apps using ShapeShifter

Console is an app in /Applications/Utilities. Open it and you will see log messages of applications.
See if there is something about growl there.

Is there anything in the console?

So I have my Gorwl working fine... only thing is I would like to use smoke.. or another theme so I select it and it never works! I am not sure why and I restar it but never any luck... Thanks in Advance :) Did you select it under General > Display Style? and I am positive I have it selected... Then...

1) Growl has REALbasic bindings so you don't have to write it yourself.

Good catch! It's indeed a bug and it's fixed for .8
In the meantime, simply add GrowlMenu (from /Library/PreferencePanes/Growl.prefPane/Contents/Resources/GrowlMenu.app) to your login items.

This is a known issue. It'll be fixed in .8

Go to the growl panel, and then disable and re-enable the "Display Growl status in the menu bar" box, and see if it helps.
