Re: Can Someone Write an AppleScript for iChat?

As far as I can tell, the text of the incoming message is not available via scripting so you can't growl 'foo said "Hello!" ', but you can have 'foo sent you a message' Which this modified version of the script does - you will have to attach it to the 'message received' action. property my...

Re: Logging

No, logging has been removed - however I believe that there are plans afoot to create a notifications 'history' in a future release.

Re: growlnotify set display style

If you specify the 'application name' via growlnotify's -n switch then that notification will appear in the Growl Prefpane as a separate app, which you can configure to use whichever style you wish.

As far as I remember, Growl's logging mechanism was removed a while ago.

Re: Send message to entire network?

As far as I remember there was a design decision not to allow this - as it was considered 'spammy.'

Re: Hardware Growler vs Airport Extreme

Curiouser and curiouser - I now have no network disconnects at all, even though I'm back running HG. I think the issue may have been wireless interference - there are a lot of wireless networks around my house (my macbook pro can see at least seven through the airport menu extra) and I was running t...

Re: Hardware Growler vs Airport Extreme

Hmm - I spent a couple of days without HG running, and didn't notice any network disconnections. It may well be causing the issue - alas, I have no idea how to solve it.

Re: How do I use SMS notifications

No worries, glad it works properly again. As for your feature requests - I intend to implement the SenderID thing - initially they allowed anything as the senderID so we could have 'Growl' as the sender (in fact that's what is hard-coded in there at the moment.) Alas, obviously due to SMS spammers t...

Re: HardwareGrowler stopped when I ...

I suppose we could distribute two versions - one that's 'invisible' and one that's not - but that seems rather inefficient.

Re: HardwareGrowler stopped when I ...

I suppose it's a user-experience thing: Once you check the preference to make it invisible - the UI for turning that preference off disappears. To the casual user it's irreversible.

Re: HardwareGrowler stopped when I ...

Not sure about the issue in the second of your posts.

It sounds like you didn't edit the plist properly. Perhaps we ought to provide a better solution to that. Users shouldn't have to edit Plists...

Can't think of a good solution right now though...

Re: Hardware Growler vs Airport Extreme

Hi, I wrote much of HardwareGrowler, but not the Networking notification stuff. Alas, I'm not familiar with how that part of it works. I too see these airport drop/reconnects. They appear not to have any regularity to the frequency of when they occur. I have no firm evidence to back this up - but ju...

Re: sticky applescript notifications

Re: How do I use SMS notifications

OK, I've had a look, and fixed it - the requests are sent to clickatell over HTTP, and the URL that is used has started responding with a re-direct, and our code didn't handle that at all. If you want to get a working copy of the SMS display now I'll post it online. To install it you will need to do...

Re: growlnotify for linux

As far as I remember - GrowlNotify is a local tool - i.e. it communicates with the local instance of Growl on a Mac, so it's not the tool you want. It relies on Mac OS X specific frameworks. You might want to google for "growl linux" + (language of your choice.) e.g. here's something in py...

Re: Growl + Twitter = Possible?

It sounds like it wouldn't be too difficult to build a notification plug-in to Growl which does this. There is a class for twittering here: http://mattgemmell.com/2008/02/22/mgtwitterengine-twitter-from-cocoa You just need to find a coder who is willing to help. Alas Growl can only use one display s...
