if you get text like giberish, it's really an emoticon. If you can get the image in some way, you can make an emoticon pack, and use that. As soon as you find these images on the web or wherever, post again, and you might find someone to do it for you. The nudges, handwriting and other bandwith-abus...

Might be that you are changing it on the general tab, but that in the application tab it's set to bubbles.
