No way to just not have a buddy icon, eh? That seems like it would be pretty standard affair as far as chat programs go. Well, I guess that is something for the developers to think about adding. Yes. There's a current problem in .82 where it hangs on to buddy icons a bit more than it should, so just hold out for a bit and see if your problem gets fixed by the next .8x release

You could create a trac ticket ( http://trac.adiumx.com/wiki/RequestingFeatures ), but the likelihood of it's implementation will be almost nil - the dock menu is purposefully left uncluttered, and that's some major clutter.

Delete it from the field specified above.

If one of the people that got a notification is the current front tab, this will occur. A switch to Adium by clicking on the dock will first clear that notification, then go to the next notification, because the first one has already been cleared. Fairly annoying, but not terribly sure if it's a bug...

I don't think he's ticked off, he just likes it when people read all the posts in a thread, where it is stated multiple times that animated images have to be 48x48 to work.
