It can't really do that much, like you said the most it'll do is erase things like notes, alias, message history, etc. that are endemic to a contact (and meta-contact info too as mentioned)

Keep typing until you reach a second line... it resizes itself automatically based on how many lines you've typed.

If you go really quickly over like 20 contacts does it slow down or not appear or does the lookup occur so quickly even then that you can't tell?

Sounds like the already discussed request for "separate contact lists" and not just a certain style.

I recommend MenuMaster from Unsanity, it can assign any shortcut to any menu item. It's a haxie - warnings, YMMV, etc.

The bigger problem would be that you probably can't run PHP out of .mac and definitely don't have access to mysql in it.

Can the code bottleneck when running over a list and displaying contact after contact (repeated lookups without delay almost) or do you cache results at all after fetching (to remove repeated fetches unless a personChanged or whatever notification comes in)? I know! Believe me.. ;) But still, a lot of people run Adium on older machines. Especially since its the multi-IM that requires the least resources. We can't add options or code continually for the lowest common denominator or we'll never really support a lot of features that people not only enjoy ...

Please search. There are at least half a dozen threads that repeat the same things about file transfer already.

To be useful:

1) Enable Address Book support and contacts that list multiple screennames will automatically combine.

2) Option+drag (that's hold the Option key down and drag the mouse) 1 name onto another and they will combine into one entry.

A practical problem - drag-rearranging tabs in an invisible bar... the constraint isn't visible and the new locations aren't either (and since they are transparent are likely not included in normal tracking, etc.)
