I don't believe it is possible to see the status in the message window. Why not just keep the contact list visible at all times?

While I agree that it doesn't make sense currently, I think it makes more sense to rename the menu options for each account, and move the disconnect option under each account. You have to recall that the 'Search for users' option is specific for each account.

We can't say if it will fix itself, but I wouldn't count on it, since you are running with a version of Adium that is almost two years old. I highly recommend that you upgrade to the newest version!

As noted on the blog, the Facebook plugin is deprecated and is going away. You can try the current beta (http://beta.adium.im), as this shifts Facebook to using XMPP instead, or wait for the full release of 1.4.3, which, hopefully, is just around the corner.
