Your crash is caused by Facebook. Use XMPP instead as described here.

iChat --> Preferences --> General

I assume that the setting called "Set status to offline, when I end iChat" (Or something similar) should be ticked.

Although I do find it weird that you can be logged in using both applications at the same time.

Privacy Settings --> Block certain contacts --> Remove those that have been blocked.

Yeah, this really is inconvenient and takes up so much unnecessary space on my desktop.. I thought Adium was all about freeing up space on your desktop and was meant to be a light, practical chat app, which is the reason I love it to begin with. This sucks. You can set privacy settings under the Adium menu. Just set it to ignore anyone not on your list.

It takes some time for the icon to propagate to all your recipients I believe. You should check again.

You can sit here and hope that someone reads the thread and makes you a plugin..

Since command-W is the systemwide shortcut for this method, I wouldn't count on it getting added. You could make a plugin though.
