after a quick search on the adium xtras site, i found these which include an invisible state:

an invisible state is supported as of version 0.83 according to: http://trac.adiumx.com/wiki/AdiumIcon, you just need to find a dock icon with the invisible state or create your own.

i'm almost certain that i have been getting the "is typing" notifications on google talk when its adium -> adium, and everyone i know on google talk is also using adium, so thats all i can vouch for.

very cool, but the "Hide offline contacts" doesn't seem to be working for me, and custom status icons show up as "?" boxes like missing images do in safari, but the built in gems set works perfect.
