Got the same problem in my event preference window. It's even worse when until I change the sound bank or something — guess there is some kind of window refreshing, then. Someone on a french-speaking Adium-oriented forum also reported that deleting and creating again the account in the forums sovled the issue.

I suffered the same problem too and in fact, it all worked again when I turned “Connect via HTTP” off — it used to be on for a completely unrelated reason which doesn't apply any longer.
