I did try the smallest size. The header text is bigger than the body text. It does seem like there's a lot of extra room in the header. I think it's the shadow space playing badly to the eyes. Sounds like you have multiple copies of Growl running in the background. Can you try restarting your Mac?

It's also possible that GrowlHelperApp is running on both user accounts, and both are trying to "listen" for remote notifications. Check the 'network' tab of Growl.

Adjustable font size is done for 1.2.1 or 1.3, whichever comes first.

It is not yet possible to change the size of the text, but the font size is a bit more roomier for most things.
