We don't know what causes this. It's not a Growl bug. It may be a bug in the Growl framework (which Firefox uses code from), but we're not sure about that, either, especially since the problem is intermittent.

In the Finder (not the Open panel), right-click on Growl.prefPane, then choose “Show Package Contents”. Open the Contents folder, then the Resources folder. GrowlHelperApp is in there. Drag it into the Open panel.

If you mean you want a script to make iChat post Growl notifications, that probably isn't possible. Try Chax instead.
