So what I know is that movies with subtitles have a subtitle track as a video track, and there is the original video track... so there are two video tracks. That is the reason that we see black screen when we watch movies with subtitles via front row.

My Front row 2.0 displays black screen when it's playing a multi video track movie. It happened after I merged video tracks of two (free) iTunes downloaded TV show with QT Pro, even when Perian was not installed. You might want to confirm it and feedback...
