In that case, is there a log kept anywhere of notifications that have been processed?

Is there any way to output Growl notifications to an XML file? Maybe with a way to clean up the file once notifications reach a certain age, so the file doesn't grow indefinitely?

It would be nice if there was a settable max number of alerts onscreen at once, I agree. And presumably Growl would maintain a buffer of unshown alerts, showing the next oldest one whenever a space opens up onscreen. Sounds like an excellent idea to me!
