In case someone wanna try my solution you must be using latest 1.3 branch svn.

I'm able to login with my Adium but I have changed stuff for the icq protocol in it so in case this problem is global then I know the solution to it.

This is fixed in libpurple so it will hopefully be in 1.3.3.

There is a solution to the problem that hopefully will make it in before 1.3.3 final.

Pidgin probably use emblems for showing this. They also use it to indicate if a user is using the web messenger or the contact is a yahoo contact. http://trac.adiumx.com/ticket/10719

Something still seems to be blocking you from connecting to some addresses.

just checked myself on my vista partition and 8.5 does seem to be able to see the pictures but only a single frame representation as said above, pidgin also can only see the still frame, where as amsn can do the whole 4 second video thing, so I dont think that the new avatars are the problem, i won...

This turned out to be part of the problem for me deleting the relevant Jabber accounts from adium was the solution. It hasn't fixed the WLM 9 problem but at least avatars from other clients seem to update in a more timely fashion now. So far so good anyway. If you run msn through a xmpp/jabber gate...

Try to connect when you are directly connected to internet instead of going through the router is a good start.

This looks like a network problem. Do you have a software or hardware firewall/router that does something that it shouldn't?

update: wlm9 user's cant see my avatar. I can't see theirs also. It should be a problem on microsoft's side, they must have changed something my problem though is not that. forget about wlm9 users. What about people that use wlm 8.5 and older? How does avatars work for them with wlm 9 using contacts?

With iTunes-thingy do you mean the status "♫ iTunes"? The proper way to display what you are listening to is to use the setting which is on the privacy tab for you msn account. In the official msn client this info replaces the personal message but in Adium you still see their personal mess...

Something is blocking access to or from messenger.hotmail.com. Does this always happen? If not then it's probably just a temporary server problem otherwise you have some software or hardware that is blocking.
