Re: AC3 Passthrough w/ Apple updates but need better solution
You know what? I've decided to give it a go. I'm going to download Linux - probably Ubuntu - Dual Boot my iMac and give MythTV/Linux a bash. I'll let people know how it goes!

Re: AC3 Passthrough w/ Apple updates but need better solution
That's a whole other jump to make! It took me ages to leave Front Row behind... This setup is working well enough for me to not have to face moving to Linux for this application... but I know it's an option. If I ever DID have to move that way, I'd have a new problem of what TV Tuning app to use for...

Re: AC3 Passthrough w/ Apple updates but need better solution
Makes for a messy workflow eh! The thing I like about Plex is it has simplicity around these issues. Other members of the household are 100% intolerant of futzing around. It's more complex than AppleTV/Front Row but it works! As for AppleTV... I personally would prefer a MacMini running Plex. The wh...

Re: AC3 Passthrough w/ Apple updates but need better solution
I went through the same crap a while back. I ended up dropping Quicktime altogether and using VLC Player and Plex as Quicktime Player/Front Row replacements. This did it for me and I'm now 100% happy. Both apps play AC3 and DTS tracks without any of the crap poor old gbooker is trying to help us thr...

Re: Quicktime 7.4.5 breaks AC3 passthrough DD 5.1
In all honesty, with all the crap Apple has been doing, if you want to use a computer as a media center, don't use a mac. Yes Apple, you are throwing away a rather large market, and after the repeated stunts you have pulled, you deserve to lose it. True... until you try to get one up and running - ...

Re: QT7.6 - 5.1 Still Blocked! What are the alternatives???
Wow yeah! Plex is very nice.. and it WORKS! I also downloaded XBMC and a new project called Boxee. XBMC works quite well now (I had a terrible time 6 months back getting it to display on the HDTV correctly - basically didn't work). It and Plex seem very similar (I guess that's to be expected as they...

Which AV Amps work with AC3 passthru?
We recently got a new AV amp which doesn't work with the Perian AC3 Passthru hack after QT 7.4.1. Can people post which AV Amps WORK with QT > 7.5?
THANKS!!!

QT7.6 - 5.1 Still Blocked! What are the alternatives???
<Sigh> QT 7.6 is still blocking AC3 Passthrough. After reading gbooker's thoughts in the other recent threads, I'm starting to believe it will never be fixed. So... all politics aside, I'm going to start researching alternatives to Front Row. I know VLC plays AC3 and even DTS files without hassle bu...

Will Quicktime 7.6 address the 5.1 passthrough fiasco?
I read this on Appleinsider this morning... http://www.appleinsider.com/articles/08 ... sound.html
I wonder if gbooker or any of the other Perian devs are adding their 20 cents worth... I really hope so!

Re: mux to mkv breaks quicktime/appletv with perian-no transcode
Hey gbooker - thanks! You may have just solved my biggest issue... what to do with .mkv's! What does the 'Save As' actually do... does it strip the .mkv container and replace it with the .mov?
Thanks!
James
Thanks!

Re: Quicktime 7.4.5 breaks AC3 passthrough DD 5.1
Uh, actually, I'm talking about Front Row. There are two ways to use VLC within Front Row. The first is a plugin to hide the Front Row interface and launch VLC in full screen mode, allowing it to be controlled by the remote. The second is have a VLC library draw within an openGL layer, and include ...
