Re: Does v1.1.1 still preload the entire xvid file?

Mr VacBob, based on your tip, I looked in my /Library/Quicktime dir and removed some old components, namely: AviImporter-r7 (Intel).component XviD_Codec-r58 (Intel).component DivX Decoder.component DivX Encoder.component After rebooting, Quicktime starts playback quickly with Perian 1.1.1 installed....

Re: Does v1.1.1 still preload the entire xvid file?

quicktime player 7.5.5 (249.13)
quicktime version 7.5.5 (990.7)
mbp, os x 10.5.5

i've noticed this difference betwen perian 1.0 and 1.1 in previous versions of quicktime (7.3) as well. it always took longer to start avi playback with perian 1.1. installed, so i just stuck with 1.0.

Re: Does v1.1.1 still preload the entire xvid file?

i've attached the quicktime sample that was outputted with perian 1.1.1 installed, but i don't really know what it means. the video is a 700mb xvid/mp3 in avi container. it opens virtually instantly in quicktime with perian 1.0 installed.

Re: Does v1.1.1 still preload the entire xvid file?

ok maybe it's not preloading the entire file, but it's doing something for 10-20 seconds before playback begins, whereas perian 1.0 starts playing back the same video immediately. the cpu usage is high for those 10-20sec, so what is it doing?

Does v1.1.1 still preload the entire xvid file? [RESOLVED]

Just wondering if the latest 1.1.1 version still preloads the entire xvid (avi) file before playback can start like it does in 1.1. I don't want to upgrade from 1.0 if it does.
