I, too, would sometimes forget that I am carrying on a conversation with someone when I am busy doing something else. A Buzz/Nudge in this case, is very appropriate. Yes, it is possible. I conference/groupchat with my Yahoo friends frequently.

1) To start, ctrl-click a name and select "Initiate conference with username"

2) To add more participants. Ctrl-click name and select "Invite to chat->ChatroomName"
