i want growltunes to start up when i turn on my computer (or log in), but putting it in the startupItems in the library doesnt work. what should i do?

do you need growltunes to get iTunes support?
i have iTunes and growl, but it hasnt registered. i looked in the list of supported apps, and i didn't see itunes there. does that mean i absolutely must use growltunes for itunes support?
