As an update to this although it builds fine for me at least the resultant plugin doesn't do anything. Growl asks if you want it installed but the preferences aren't available. I was having the same problem and eventually found there is a downloadable Xcode project at:

No tutorials but a useful resource. If I manage to write a style I'll post a tutorial somewhere
