Offhand, I do not think there are any major incompatibilities. Certainly a move from 0.72 to 0.80 is seamless, or should be. A move back, well, probably would work, but there are absolutely no guarantees. My advice: Make a back up and see what happens

Craziness. A message window is first and foremost a text editor/viewer.

That is, in fact, the infamous Applescript crash we still can't squash. It's seemingly completely random and affects a small number of users and then only intermittently. The one time I was able to reproduce it, Adium had perform about 14,500 Applescript calls before it occurred.
